A casual dining food chain has pulled out of plans to open in Bracknell.

Wimpy first announced plans to open in The Lexicon's Princess Square three years ago in June 2020.

Plans progressed steadily and the council gave the restaurant the go-ahead in July with designs revealed for 2021.

In April 2022 the first signs of the store opening were seen, with posters inviting residents to apply for a job at the store.

Days later husband and wife team Del and Sukhi Ghosal were announced as franchisees of Wimpy Bracknell - with the announcement the store will open in early Summer 2022.

However things quickly took a turn and in July Wimpy expresses it’s disappointment as ‘supply chain’ issues outside of their control put the opening on hold.

Since the announcment the franchisees are believed to have pulled out and little has been said since.

A 'Wimpy coming soon' sign has remained up on the unit since the developments.

Now a Wimpy spokesperson has confirmed that long-awaited plans to open a new restaurant in Bracknell’s Princess Square have been dropped.

A Wimpy spokesperson said: “We are very disappointed that discussions between ourselves and a prospective franchisee, who was the leaseholder for the premises, have ended without agreement. This means we are unable to proceed further at this location.

“We appreciate it is not the news our many Wimpy fans in the town were hoping for, and we would like to reassure them that we will continue to look for other opportunities to open a Wimpy restaurant within the Bracknell area.”

In the last update from The Lexicon, a spokesperson for the shopping centre said that they still have a lease in place with the operator.
