An elderly woman is one step closer to getting a new disability scooter after thugs burned it down.

Almost £4,000 has been raised in less than a week for an elderly woman whose electric scooter was stolen from outside her home in Bracknell.

The scooter was located outsider her home in Birch Hill, along with all of her shopping, when it was stolen and set alight on Friday, January 29.

Since the incident, the community has rallied to help get a replacement scooter by donating all the money they can to a fundraising page set up by her kind-hearted neighbours.

Jade Louise Tranter, one of the neighbours who organised the fundraiser, gave an update about the fundraising appeal.

She posted a message to the Bracknell community "I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to the fund and everyone who has offered a scooter / shopping but also to everyone for the comments and kind words. "We will be looking for a new scooter suitable for the women in the next few days and then making a purchase! Once delivered we will be sure to update everyone."

So far, £3,515 has been raised, surpassing the initial target of £1,850.

Generous locals, shocked by the news which had circulated on social media, expressed their outrage.

One said: "Donated. There are no words for people that do these awful things.

"People are suffering enough at the moment. Unbelievable."

There has been no update in regards to police catching the culprits, Jade informed.
