POISONOUS moth caterpillars have been found on an oak tree in Bracknell.
The Oak Processionary Moth caterpillars were found on an oak tree near Clintons Hill on Wednesday June 27.
The caterpillars can cause skin irritation and asthma, and are usually found in central and southern Europe, though they have now been discovered in Bracknell.
The surrounding area has been cordoned off and posters have been put up to advise residents to stay well aware, as the council and the Forestry Commission aims to control the spread of the moth and keep the public safe.
Andrew Hunter, chief officer for planning transport and countryside, said: “We take the safety of our residents very seriously and would advise people not to disturb or handle the nests or moths as they can cause severe irritation to the skin”.
“We are now collaborating with the Forestry Commission in order to support their long standing work to control the spread of this moth and minimise the risk to the public as they continue to enjoy our parks, gardens and woodland."
