A PLANT nursery worker has taken on a marathon challenge inspired by a relative with cancer.

On Saturday, September 23 Jade Armstrong from Winnersh spent nine miles trudging through the streets of London to raise money for cancer research.

It was the third time Miss Armstrong has taken part in the annual walk around the capital.

“A relative of mine suffered from cancer and that’s what really prompts me to do this,” she explained.

The first time Jade completed the walk she was accompanied by her sister.

Last year her father Martin joined her but drama was to follow. He collapsed during the walk and needed a 45-minute pause at an ambulance before carrying on and completing the course.

Martin accompanied Jade again this year and both finished safely.

“It started in Southwark and we walked through the night until finishing at Old Billingsgate in the early hours of the morning,” said Jade.

“I then had to get to work at Sheeplands later that same morning. It was tough but I made it and it was all worthwhile.

In the three years Jade has been taking part in the walk she has raised over £500 for Shine.
