DRIVERS were caught in traffic chaos on Tuesday in what could become a regular fixture over the coming weeks.

At around 3pm large queues of cars began forming around the Twin Bridges roundabout in Bracknell town centre.

While the spot is not an unfamiliar location for traffic jams, motorists noticed that the lights were not acting as normal.

It transpires that Bracknell Forest Council engineers have been adjusting the sequences ahead of The Lexicon opening on September 7.

It is thought that when the covers are finally whipped off the regeneration project large numbers of shoppers will flock to the town - potentially causing big tail backs and congestion.

Andrew Hunter, chief officer for planning, transport and countryside, said: “The September opening of The Lexicon will bring additional traffic demands and our engineers are currently reviewing the operation of key traffic light junctions.

"These adjustments will continue until refinement work is complete.”

It is unclear how regular and for how long these adjustments will be taking place.
