A MAJOR cash injection will help the Wokingham Volunteer Centre with its work.

Staff at the Vodafone store in Wokingham chose the deserving cause to be the recipient of the Vodafone Community Connection Award.

The charity, run by Christine Knox, was set up in 1974 to provide volunteers for projects and charities.

Thanks to the £1,000 award, the charity can continue to place volunteers in the local community, who assist with everything from transport schemes and gardening to DIY and legal advice.

Helena Badger, Volunteer Development Coordinator at the Wokingham Volunteer Centre entered the charity for the award and said: “A huge thanks to Vodafone for this donation. The money will enable us to cover the IT costs for our Transport Scheme.

"This service enables 1,000 elderly and disabled people to get to essential medical appointments across the borough and beyond. Without it, we could not run this invaluable scheme which really does make a difference to so many Wokingham residents.”

Jonathan Langlands, Vodafone Store Manager in Wokingham added: “It’s fantastic that we are able to help Wokingham Volunteer Centre.

"They are very much the unsung heroes of Wokingham who provide a service to both charities and people who want to volunteer. It is a privilege to be able to support them.”
