A TOTAL of 29 arrests were made during Royal Ascot last week.

The annual event staged at Ascot Racecourse welcomed a record 295,007 racegoers through its doors this year.

Thames Valley Police officers, the Metropolitan Police Force and British Transport Police, amongst others, worked together to ensure the five-day race meeting went by trouble free.

Officers ensured safe entrance and exit for the Royal Party on all days and dealt with 29 arrests during the course of the week, all for low level offences.

The annual event, which this year ran from Tuesday, June 14, to Saturday, June 18, involved officers from across all areas of the force including dogs, mounted section and armed response.

Silver Commander, Superintendent Jim Weems, said: "Royal Ascot is a significant annual event, which we are proud to have within the Thames Valley Police area.

"The racecourse, police and local authority work hard to ensure that local businesses and residents not linked to the meeting can continue business as normal during this time.

"I would like to say thank you on behalf of Thames Valley Police for the support and welcome offered throughout the week.

"I’m also grateful for the hard work of my officers in responding to events on the ground and for taking such a positive policing approach to this event."
