A COURAGEOUS 11-year-old boy has been praised after he jumped into action to save his dad who was trapped in the bathroom after suffering a seizure.

Young Stevie Dollery realised something was amiss when he heard splashing and banging from the bathroom of his dad Steven Dollery’s home in Lydney, Bracknell, on Sunday morning.

After getting no answer when he called out and, realising the bathroom door was locked, Stevie grabbed the phone and dialled 999.

He told the emergency call handler that the door was locked so he couldn't turn the water off. Young Stevie explained he was having a “scary” time while he looked after his four-year-old brother.

Speaking to the News, Stevie’s mum Joanna Brown said she was incredibly proud of her son’s quick-thinking.

“He wasn’t meant to be there. He stayed Friday night and came back Saturday but he went back to stay at his dad’s because his brother was there. It was like fate,” Joanna said.

She added: “He was woken up to his dad running a bath then he heard splashing around and lots of banging. He called his dad and he didn’t answer. He knew his dad sometimes had fits, so called 999.

“I’ve always told him how to call 999 and what to do. I’m very proud of him. Things could have been a lot worse if he hadn’t been there.”

Stevie, a pupil at Easthampstead Park School, often spends the weekends with his father after he and Joanna split around ten years ago.

He said it was a scary time but that he was proud of how he dealt with it.

“I was scared. I told the man on the phone I can’t open the door and stop the water. Then he said the ambulance was outside. My brother was really upset but I told him everything would be ok,” Stevie said.

Once the firecrew and ambulance arrived, Stevie and his brother were taken to his aunt’s house to stay.

Bracknell’s firecrew confirmed the situation could have been a lot different were it not for the quick-thinking of the youngster.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed they attended a medical emergency at the Birch Hill home but could not release any further details.
