More than 830 competitors took part in the event on Sunday, in its 31st year, with both fun runners and more seasoned racers participating.

Runners started and finished at South Hill Park, with the 13.1-mile course taking in streets in Birch Hill, Wildridings, Warfield, Bullbrook, Harmans Water and Forest Park.

Woking runner 34-year-old Nick Handley, last year’s runner-up, won the race this time around in a time of 1:14:37, with Mark Crabtree in second place in a time of 1:17:18. Ben Goddard was third in a time of 1:20:06.

Mr Handley, a member of Bracknell Forest Runners, who tackled the race for the seventh year, said: “I really enjoyed the race and it was pretty clear throughout.

“Even though I’ve done the half marathon here several times, this is the first time I’ve won, which was great.

“I am very pleased with my performance.

“It is such an enjoyable place to come every year.” Samantha Amend was the first woman to cross the line, in a time of 1:21:48, with Becky Atkinson second with 1:25:14 and Dawn Goodwin third with 1:27:30.

Ms Amend, 35, from Marlow, was competing in the race for the fifth time.

She said: “I have had a hard week of training so I feel good with my time here. It offers lots of different challenges along the route and one of the main reasons I keep coming up is because it is so brilliantly organised.” Family members, residents and friends lined the final strait to encourage runners home, with the race being classed as a “successful asset to the community”.

Chris Vaal, the race organiser and leisure development manager for Bracknell Forest Council, said: “I would just like to say thank you to everyone who helped me throughout the planning process – without them this festival would not last much longer.

He said: “It was absolutely perfect conditions for the race and I’m very pleased with how the day went.

“We have had some great feedback and people seem to keep coming back.

“Events like this really showcase Bracknell and it is a real community bonus.” Next year’s Bracknell Half Marathon will be on Sunday, May 8.
