THE fire brigade is putting up posters warning people to stay away from the forest fires after reports of walkers and children going too close.

Members of the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Safer Community education team are sticking up the signs around Crowthorne to warn that the fire is still unpredictable and, if fanned by strong winds, it could travel as fast as people can run.

Safer Community co-ordinator Julie Isaacs (pictured) said: "Just stay out - keep yourself and your family safe.

"Let the firefighters get on with what they've got to do." In addition to the fire suddenly moving in a different direction if the wind changed, the brigade is warning that people could easily become disorientated and lost in smoky areas.

Crews from seven fire services are continuing to tackle the fires, which began on Monday and have affected 400 hectares.
