A COUPLE grappled with and saw off a burglar in the middle of the night after he had climbed into their home through a bedroom window.

The ordeal, which happened in Mildenhall Road, Slough, around 12.30am on Wednesday, has left one of the victims, a woman in her thirties, "traumatised" police said.

She was asleep when she was woken by the sound of her bedroom window opening, initially thinking it was her husband who was doing so because of the  hot weather.

But when she opened her eyes she saw a man climbing through the window into the bedroom and she began screaming.

The burglar told the woman to calm down but her screams alerted her husband who came into the bedroom. Both husband and wife then had a tussle with the burglar who ran down the stairs and out of the front door.

He is described as white, of muscular build, aged between 20-25 years old and over 6ft tall. He wore a dark coloured peeked baseball cap, dark trousers and three-quarter length trousers.

The woman described him as speaking with an Eastern European accent.

Detective Constable Zoe Bryant, investigating officer from Slough CID, said: “The nature of this incident has left the victim traumatised.

“I would appeal to anyone with information about the burglary or the offender to get in touch with us immediately.

“I would like to reassure everyone that a thorough investigation is underway to try and arrest the person responsible.”
