Bracknell News: A top Berkshire school has been named one of the best boarding schools in the UK in the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2024.

Set in 400 acres of the Bracknell Forest countryside, Wellington College is one of the first schools to establish a Mandarin Centre and embrace mindfulness in its curriculum.

The independent school serving students aged 13 to 18 has secured its highest ranking ever in the school’s history.

2. Royal Borough pulls funding for Christmas lights in Ascot

Residents have expressed their disappointment as Ascot High Street sits devoid of Christmas decorations and lights this festive season.

Despite the Berkshire town’s sparkling reputation for the rich and famous, a lack of funding in the Royal Borough has forced the town into darkness.

Ascot is run and funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead alongside surrounding villages such as Sunninghill and Sunningdale.

3. Henry Street Garden Centre in Aborfield launches Christmas light trail

A free Christmas light trail has launched in Wokingham.

Henry Street Garden Centre has pulled out all the stops for its outdoor lights display, featuring reindeer, Christmas trees and more.

The display is open in the evening from 4:30pm to 7pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

4. Bracknell Forest road closures causing havoc for drivers

Bracknell News:

Drivers across Bracknell Forest have been experiencing an uptick in the number of road closures and temporary lights this festive season.

From road resurfacing to gasworks and water leaks, circumstances have meant that more than one diversion route has been implemented.

In some cases commuters have reported that diversions and roadworks have caused their journey times to triple.

5. Bracknell Town FC director's plan to replace Bracknell Leisure Centre

Bracknell News:

A football stadium, an athletics track, and an eight storey building housing an Olympic sized swimming pool, a climbing wall, a restaurant and bar, and a college with student accommodation.

These were all part of a football club director’s ambitious plans to replace Bracknell Leisure Centre that were turned down by the council.

The News has revealed how Bracknell Town FC director Kayne Steinborn-Busse produced a vision for a major new sports facility to replace the leisure centre, after being canvassed for interest by the council.
