A NEW park in Crowthorne has been targeted by multiple incidents of suspected arson, just weeks after its grand opening.

According to Crowthorne Parish Council, Morgan Recreational Ground has seen “two incidents of arson/deliberately lit fires in the last fortnight”.

The first incident involved the new exercise track, which was officially opened on June 16, being “torched with accelerant”.

A spokesperson from Crowthorne Parish Council said: “The Parish Council and police will deal robustly with anyone found to have deliberately lit a fire/damaged community assets/property.

“Both incidents have been reported to police and CCTV footage supplied.”

Residents have been quick to share their anger at the damage. One resident commented that the incident is “absolutely awful and disgraceful”, before claiming the offender “should be ashamed of themselves”.

Morgan Recreational Park has had various redevelopment projects, including the new exercise track that was opened on June 16, by pupils from Wildmoor Heath School, and The Ark and Crowthorne Preschool.

The Ninja Trail redevelopment project started on June 26 and is set to be complete soon, with a grand opening event on Friday, September 8.

The new park will have a ninja wall, monkey bars, and a stopwatch to time yourself.
