1. Conversion of pub into home near Bracknell given go ahead

Bracknell News:

A pub will soon be turned into a home after the council’s rejection to the plan was overturned for the site between Bracknell and Maidenhead.

The Wellington Pub Company applied to convert the New Leathern Bottle off Maidenhead Road in Jealotts Hill into a four-bedroom home back in October 2021.

However, the plan was refused by Bracknell Forest Council’s planning department, with council officer Basia Polnik arguing that the conversion would result in a ‘unacceptable loss of a community asset’.

2. Teachers’ strikes: Berkshire schools set to close due to strikes

Bracknell News:

A number of school staff in Berkshire are set to strike for the first time in years over falling wages and school budget cuts.

Those schools which have teachers and staff engaging in strike action across the country are being warned of disruption with some expected to close altogether.

The strike has been called by the National Education Union (NEU) and will take place on Wednesday, February 1.

3. Fans see Danny Dyer, James Arthur, Dan Osbourne at Ethan Treharne game

Bracknell News:

Thousands of fans from up and down the country came together last weekend (29/1) in memory of local boy, Ethan Treharne.

In conjunction with Sellebrity Soccer and the Treharne family, well-known TV personalities and celebs journeyed to Sandhurst for some light-hearted fun and footie.

The team were also joined by local councillors, the Mayor of Sandhurst and Bracknell and representatives from both the Brain Tumour Research and Frimley Health Trust.

4. Bracknell burglars target two homes in Hawkins Close

Bracknell News:

BURGLARS have targeted two neighbouring homes, attempting to break-in through the back of one house before successfully ransacking the home next door.

Glass patio doors were smashed at one home in Hawkins Close during attempts to jemmy the door open.

The damage was discovered after someone living at one home reported hearing a cracking noise coming from the back of their house.

5. Strikes: Bracknell revellers stand at picket line at The Lexicon

Bracknell News:

DOZENS of teachers, support staff and parents from across Bracknell Forest joined the picket line today in the biggest teachers' industrial action strike since the 1980s.

Alongside hundreds of other schools across the country, the group stood in solidarity to send a message about the government’s lack of funding and support for schools.

Teachers have said that the ‘unfunded pay rise’ has massively impacted both well-being of students and ‘eroded the education system.’
