Plans to erect a ‘harmful’ 30-meter 5G mast in the borough have been roundly rejected by the Bracknell Forest Council.

Telecommunications company Cornerstone, which operates radio mast infrastructure at more than 20,000 sites across the UK, proposed the installation on Jigs Lane North, Warfield – the latest in a stream of applications in the area.

A planning officer determined that the plan would result in “adverse harm” to the character and appearance of the area, as well as having an “unacceptable impact” on highway safety.

Warfield Parish Council had earlier recommended the application for refusal. It was “concerned” that the plans would create a new access point onto Jigs Lane North requiring the removal of the hedge and potential highway safety issues.

As well as the enormous lattice mast, comprising six antennas and two dishes, the plan also proposed two ground-based cabinets be installed at its base.

The council’s planning authority discussed the “matters of concern” with Cornerstone, however, the issues were deemed to be “so fundamental” to the proposal it was not possible to negotiate a way forward.

This is the twelfth 5G mast application in the borough so far this year. So far, 7 proposals have already been refused by the council, with decisions on a further five still pending.
