A plan to relocate a war memorial is among the curious planning applications that have been submitted in our area this week.

Finchampstead Parish Council want to move the memorial from a junction to a more central location in the village.

In Wokingham, there is a plan to convert the old Fat Face shop into a betting shop, and in Bracknell, the owners of a home dentists want to convert a garage into a one bedroom home.

Entain plc, one of the UK’s biggest betting companies, has applied to convert the old Fat Face shop in Market Place, Wokingham into a Ladbrokes betting shop.

Ladbrokes already has two betting shops in Wokingham town centre, at 22A Market Place and 31 Peach Street.

A planning, design and heritage statement supplied by RR Planning Ltd states that Entain wants to relocate both of its current Ladbrokes betting shops into the old Fat Face unit.

Earlier this year, a plan was submitted to convert the first and second floors at 15 Market Place into two self contained flats, which was approved on October 28.

The memorial is a Grade II listed structure, and therefore a Heritage Statement has been provided by Goodger Design Associates, which has outlined how the relocation will take place and the care that will be taken during the relocation project.

The owners of The Homestead in Crowthorne have applied to convert it into eight flats.

It used to serve as a care home for 23 residents aged 65 and over and dementia patients, but it has since been closed down.

The Homestead was rated ‘Inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in 2019.

It was listed as being for sale for £1 million in May this year.

Now the new owners Elkhorne Developments want to convert it into eight flats.

The proposal is to create one three-bed, two one-bed and five two-bed flats out of the existing rooms.

Of those, four will be on the ground floor, three on the first floor, and the one three-bed flat on the second floor.

All of the new flats will come with open plan kitchen and living rooms. You can see floorplans in the gallery above.

The owners of 129 Binfield Road have applied to convert their garage into a one bed two person home.

Once work is complete, the new occupants would have a bedroom on the first floor, and an open plan kitchen and living room on the ground floor, with no internal changes to the basement.

In September, an application was submitted to convert the main house from a dentist and home into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO), with that application pending consideration.
