A MISS England finalist from Bracknell has swapped the makeup to help the homeless in her community.

Alina Green from Priestwood won the equivalent of the Miss England title last month after the prestigious beauty pageant was changed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After being crowned as a finalist in the competition, the 22-year-old army cadet has decided to help her local homeless charity.

Her mum Caroline explained how she donated food such as fruit, milk and non-perishable items to the Binfield Lighthouse Program.

She said: "She has been helping with the homeless over lockdown and was delighted that she could help by collecting, fruit, milk and tins for the program. They have a drop off point on a Monday and Tuesday until 3pm at Binfield Shops.

"Alina said she was happy to be able to help with supplies for the homeless and needy in her local area."

The Binfield Lighthouse Program, run by Amanda Thrower and her team, has continued to support the homeless, vulnerable and those in need over the last nine months under very difficult circumstances.

At the start of the year, they were helping 15 individuals with food and warmth. The program now supports about 70 people – some of whom are very young families.

Like many members of the community who help the homeless through food donations, Alina made her contribution to help those in need during the colder period.

In the Miss England competition, Alina's dedicated charity work and campaigning for sustainability at We Do Ethical gave her the winning title.

The university student was shortlisted as one of five finalists by voters on the Miss England app after raising an impressive £10,000 for charity.
