BROWN bins will not be collected by the council for almost two weeks.

Bin men collect garden waste 25 times a year and the final collection has been taken for this year.

Bracknell Forest Council explained why collections had paused after facing questions from residents on Twitter.

One asked: “Any reason why garden waste has not been collected this week[?].

“It normally goes [the] same day as recycling day but still not collected and we pay extra for this service??

“Trying to do the right thing.”

BFC responded in a series of tweets outlining why brown bin collections had stopped.

In one tweet, they responded: “The brown bin collection payment is broken down to cover 25 collections. There is no collection over the festive period.

“These two weeks over Christmas are not included in the payment.”

When will collections resume?

In another tweet to a resident, they explained when the collections will resume.

Their post read: “There will be no brown bin collections from 21 December.

Bracknell Forest’s brown bins explained

The garden waste bins aren’t handed out to every household — residents have to pay for the bin and for an annual collection charge.

Brown bins come in 240L and 140L sizes, and cost £37 to buy.

Bracknell News:

The annual collection charge for the larger bin is £50, and for the smaller bin it is £46.

What can I put in my brown bin?

Chopped Christmas trees are fine for this bin, as are grass cuttings, hedge and tree trimmings, leaves, small branches, small plants and flowers and weeds.

However, advice on BFC’s website states you should not put animal waste, long branches, bricks and rubble, flower pots or plant trays, food waste, glass or metal, soil or turf, or tree tree stumps in your brown bin.
