A FURIOUS resident has slammed the council for its response after her blue bins were not emptied last week.

Leigh Quigg, from Sandhurst, has been told she will need to pay £28 to have her rubbish picked up or wait for her next collection date.

This came after marketing manager Leigh asked Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) on Twitter why her rubbish had not been picked up by bin men.

Pictures posted by Leigh show the bins where they stood on the day of collection, by the side of her house, compared to where they are usually collected from.

A response from BFC to Leigh indicated the bins were not collected as they were not left kerbside.

Cllr Mrs Dorothy Hayes, BFC’s environment boss, said: “Our contractor works extremely hard to empty more than 10,000 bins every weekday and so we ask residents to move their bins to the kerbside or collection point so the service can run smoothly and on time.

“In this case, the resident has not moved their bin to the collection point, which they have publicly admitted in their tweet, and it is visibly still in its storage place at the time of collection.

“An email response was sent to the resident explaining this along with information on what to do with the waste, such as booking an additional collection which would cost £28.

“Alternatively, providing the bins are at the kerbside, the waste will be collected on the resident’s next collection date.”

But Leigh claims her neighbours sometimes do not put their bins kerbside but are “always emptied.”

Speaking about BFC’s response, Leigh added: “The response embodies the attitude of the council I’m afraid.

“There is no acknowledgement that they have delivered a bad service.

“Refusing to empty a bin because it is 6 feet from its ‘usual kerbside position’ beggars belief.

“A ‘that’s the rules’ attitude, rather than a ‘you’re right, we could have and should have emptied the bin given it was easily accessible and within plain sight’ would have been a human, public service response.

“But no, let’s dig the heels in and be immovable.

“Disappointing but, as I said, nothing less than I expect.”
