Coopers Hill is set to be transformed as ambitious new regeneration plans for the town centre take another leap forward.

The site, which is home to a community centre Bracknell Forest Council says is no longer fit for purpose, will be developed to create 50 new family homes.

Around a quarter of the new homes will be made affordable and woodland spaces and a communal play area would also be created at this location.

This comes as part of the latest round of regeneration earmarked for the town centre, which will see 400 new homes added in total.

The revamp of Coopers Hill will edge closer when the authority’s top team votes to approve the transformation next week (Tuesday, November 10).

Councillor Marc Brunel-Walker said: “The Executive is due to consider very early indicative plans for the regeneration of Coopers Hill next week, which are more like principles on what we want the site to include and how we want it to feel.

“This is an exciting step forward as Coopers Hill is due to be the first site within the joint project with Countryside to be redeveloped – complementing The Lexicon and the borough’s much-loved forestry.

“However, it’s more than that as it will include affordable homes so that our community can live close to the town centre and all its wonderful amenities.

“The aim is to make town centre living available to families, first-time buyers and older residents all with walking distance of The Lexicon.”

The two other sites set to be regenerated as part of the next round of Bracknell’s regeneration are Market Street and Jubilee Gardens.

Altogether, these three sites will provide around 140 new affordable homes and 260 market-value homes, with new commercial space also added.

The Coopers Hill plans will go to public consultation first, with community groups which use the community centre having been contacted by the council already.

BFC says some groups have been offered alternate locations including Time Square.

A planning application is expected early in the new year.

The council has teamed up with developers Countryside in a Joint Venture (JV) known as Bracknell Forest Limited Liability Partnership.

The JV will be formally incorporated in December and its business plan for the regeneration of the three new sites is also set to be approved at the same meeting next.
