A KEY worker felt "sick" after reportedly seeing would-be thieves attempting to steal a catalytic converter from her family car in broad daylight.

The mental health nurse and her husband, who wishes to remain anonymous, felt distressed after looking back on her CCTV doorbell system.

They claim it shows two men in hi-vis jackets attempting to steal from underneath her car in Lovel Road, Winkfield.

Her husband said: "My wife was distressed and felt sick when she saw the attempted theft. She is a mental health nurse working at a local clinic. Although we have a second car she uses it regularly to get to work as there is no public transport. Today she is working one of her regular 12 hour shifts. We can do without events such as this."

Police confirmed it is investigating an attempted theft of a catalytic converter which happened on Saturday, May 9, in Lovel Road.

A spokesman for the force said: "I can confirm that we are investigating an attempted theft of a catalytic converter on a Honda vehicle.

"The incident happened between 2.10pm and 2.15pm on Saturday (9/5) when two people, both believed to be men, attempted to take the catalytic converter from the vehicle in Lovel Road.

"They have left empty handed. The men were wearing orange high visibility jackets, hats and masks.

"Anybody with any information that can help to identify the offenders should make a report online or call 101, quoting crime reference number 43200138755.

The couple provided the News with the video footage where they claim to see two people trying to steal the converter. This CCTV video has not been verified by the police.

He added: "It was also the blatant way of it all at midday, other people walking and cycling close by. I was actually in the garden to the side but just out of sight. They seemingly have little fear of being caught or any consequences if they are. "

The couple from Ascot explained how the same attempted theft happened a few months ago, prompting them to invest in CCTV cameras.

The husband added: "We have done all we can informing neighbours, circulating the event on local 'gossip' sites, etc. Your publicity will also help."
