'ANXIOUS' women awaiting the arrival of their newborn babies will be able to get support thanks to a new group set up in Bracknell.

Bracknell Bumps, set up by charity Home Start Bracknell Forest, has provided new mums in the area a virtual network so they can get advice and support throughout their pregnancy journey.

A lot of women in the area have been feeling "robbed" of their pregnancy journey due to the coronavirus lockdown, cancelling group classes with other like-minded mums and face-to-face appointments.

Bernice, midwife and personal trainer. said: “I strongly believe that building a good support network, plus developing core and body strength, is key to a positive birthing experience.

Nicola Strudley at Home Start Bracknell Forest said: "Having a child is one of life’s most memorable times. New parents prepare for months beforehand for their new arrival, filled with excitement and nerves. Pregnancy can be challenging but it has been made more so throughout lockdown. With women not able to call upon the practical support of friends and family due to the social distancing restrictions."

Bracknell Bumps launched on Monday, May 11, with 30 mums on the closed Facebook Group. Half of them dialled into the first Zoom virtual meeting with women asking maternity questions.

One mum who is 14 weeks pregnant spoke of how she felt "robbed of the chance to share her pregnancy journey with others."
