TROLLEYS full to the brim with bottles were seen piled up high in a supermarket car park over the weekend.

Tesco Warfield shoppers took to social media to share images of the mountain of bottles piled in front of an already overflowing bottle bank.

The supermarket giant has confirmed that the bottle bank has been emptied since the picture was taken on Sunday, April 19.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “Our bottle bank at Bracknell North superstore was emptied yesterday and we’re pleased to confirm it’s open for customers as normal.”

Lately, recycling and waste collections has caused quite a concern as Bracknell has seen a rise in fly-tipping during the coronavirus pandemic.

Many residents upset with the surge in waste left lying around blamed the closure of the recycling centre on Longshot Lane in response to the coronavirus pandemic as the reason for the rise in fly-tipping.

If the council does get the go-ahead to open the tip’s doors again, waste chiefs are working on plans to manage its use so “we don’t end up with 1,500 cars in a day which we can’t cope with”.

An re3 spokesperson said: “With people spending more time at home we are seeing an increased level of glass containers being taken to bottle banks across the boroughs, this is a mixture of food and drinks jars and bottles.

"We are responding to that increase by emptying the bottle banks regularly and, to prevent further overflows, some sites have been prioritised and are being emptied more frequently than during regular circumstances.

“If a bottle bank is full please do not leave any bottles or jars on the floor, you can report it immediately via re3 contact form.”
