£1.6 MILLION plans to 'enhance' Cantley Park are to be discussed with residents this month.

The plans to spend £1.6 million on the park were announced by Wokingham Borough Council in December 2019.

Councillors were proposing a state-of-the-art 3G pitch, an upgraded pavilion with cafe facilities, and an artificial cricket wicket. Authorities also detailed how it would improve the quality of the current grass pitches.

To view the proposals in full, or to discuss plans with officers, the council will be holding meetings in the Ashridge Room in Cantley Park in order for local residents to find out more.

Cllr Parry Batth, executive member for environment and leisure, said: “This enhancement project will bring significant benefit to the park’s large number of resident users, including those who use the park for sport such as the football community, as well as individuals and families.

"This is another huge investment in leisure and sporting facilities in Wokingham Borough that will help our climate change initiatives by reducing travel as residents will no longer have to play football outside of the borough.

"I would encourage you to drop-in to one of our sessions to find out more about our proposals at Cantley Park.

"We plan to submit a planning application for the 3G pitch in March 2020.

"If we’re successful in securing planning permission, work would start, subject to funding approval from the Football Foundation, in the summer.

"This would be great news for local teams, who would no longer have to travel outside the borough for matches or training."

The meeting dates to available to discuss plans are January 20 between 9am and 2pm, January 23 between 4pm to 9pm, and January 25 between 8am and 4pm.
