Wokingham Borough Council announced on January 9 that those registered as unpaid carers from within the borough will now have discounted access to more than five different leisure centres.

The decision is intended to promote wellbeing for those who struggle to take care of themselves due to their devotion to caring for others.

The discount will apply for leisure centres at Loddon Valley, Ryeish Green, Carnival Pool, Arborfield Green and St Crispin’s, as well as Bulmershe when it reopens next year.

A spokesman for Wokingham Borough Council said: "We are also offering a carers’ exercise class at Loddon Valley Leisure Centre on Thursdays, from 2 to 2.45pm, costing £4."

Standard swim or gym sessions at any of the leisure centres mentioned will cost unpaid carers only £2.50 for each visit, once the carer is registered via Wokingham Borough Council's sport and leisure team.
