WOKINGHAM Bowling Club’s Sylvia Pearce and Jill Thorne have been beaten in the prestigious National Finals in Leamington Spa (pic).

The pair had qualified for the event by reaching the Berkshire County final recently.

But they lost 24-16 on shots at the National Finals to a strong team from Hertfordshire.

Meanwhile, Wokingham sit top of the Berkshire Floodlit League after both A and B teams won against Desborough.

The A team recorded a 77-62 victory, while the B team won 91-65.

Representing the A team, Andrew Franklin defeated Desborough A’s E.Orme 21-12, while Martin O’Connor and Trevor Gilmour beat T.Davies and D.While 23-15.

The triple of Martin Brailey, Alan Painter and Paul Dollery lost 22-13 to D.Wagner, B.Gill and D.Locke.

The rink of Barry Wooley, Noel Butler, Len Cooke and Bob Thompson were 20-13 winners against B.Jones, I.Burns, D.Hasler & M.White 13 Wokingham B player Kevin Walter lost his match against Desborough B’s A.May 21-11.

But there was a huge 32-8 win for Wokingham pair Brian Chinneck and David Smith against Desborough’s R.Earl and B.Wright.

Wokingham’s triple of Mick Dark, John Buttigieg and Ted Melber won 30-12 against R.Wyatt, M.Hobson and B.Adams.

The Wokingham rink of Robin Harding, Keith Hutchings, John MacGregor and Paul Graham lost 24-18 to R.Hughes, R.Van-Der-Burgen, D.MacDonald and T. Devonald-Batt 24.

Wokingham Ladies won 72-37 against Hawley in a friendly, winning on all three rinks.

Wokingham skips first: Joy Holmes 28-16 M.Cowan; Vi Hales-Owen 24-12 K.Gooding; Janette Kane 20-9 V.Ranger 9.

Wokingham lost the second leg of the WokCam Trophy after a 112-64 defeat to Camberley.

Sunningdale

SUNNINGDALE won the Symes Cup after beating Staines over two legs.

Sunningdale lost the second leg, but their 39-shot lead from the first leg was enough to land the trophy.

Highest scoring rink for Sunningdale was Les Green, Alf Chell, Mike Thompson and Denis Bailey (skip).

Sadly, Sunningdale Ladies were unable to field a team in the Catley Cup and conceded the match.

The ladies team won on two rinks at Burghfield in the Thames Valley Ladies League but lost 57-44 overall and 6-4 on points.

Highest scoring rink for Sunningdale was Margaret Ward, Gill Dickson and Kathy Edwards (skip).

Sunningdale Ladies Pam Kiddell, Kathy Edwards and Marjorie Walklett(skip) reached the last 16 of the National Women’s Triples at Leamington Spa recently, before losing to the eventual tournament winners.

Sunningdale A will take part in the Berkshire County play-offs as the highest Division Two runner up and will be promoted to Division One next season.

Great Hollands

GREAT Hollands Wrens ended their Thaes Valley Ladies League season on a high with a 55-44 win against Woodley and 9-1 on points.

Sheila Ledbury, Lol Street and Rose Reason won 18-11 while Carolyn Lofthouse, Myrtle McMoneagle and Angie Sherfield won 20-16. Sheila Stickland, Jean Cox and Mary Thomas drew 17-17 on their rink.
