ASCOT United slipped to a 2-1 home defeat to Brackley Town Saints in their Hellenic League Premier Division encounter on Saturday.

The Yellamen started brightly and Mo Davies chipped over when well placed after just seven minutes, but the visitors responded immediately and Chris Jordan fired narrowly over.

Dean March’s incisive pass set Jordan clear in the 10th minute, and even though Ascot’s James Goodey had done the hard work in tracking back, he then fouled Jordan who followed up his own penalty – a weak effort that Lee Allen had saved – to stab into the bottom right.

At the other end, Cameron Gyeabour saw Dan Farrell smother a shot before his follow-up was cleared off the line, but Jordan added a 22nd-minute second – again at the second attempt – when he stabbed home after Allen had instinctively blocked his initial attempt.

Ascot battled for the remainder of the half, but never looked like scoring before the interval.

Saints might have added a third as James Hammond came close and Alex Scott then failed to flick home after Allen had saved on 57 minutes, but after the hosts had made their final two substitutions, they began to threaten.

Goodey found the angle against him after rounding Farrell in the 72nd minute, but the ever-eager striker banged in a superb effort moments later when his long-range effort sailed into the top right-hand corner.

As the home side pressed for an equaliser, substitutes Callum Carlisle and Louie Gilpen missed with a header and left-footed effort respectively, before Louis Bouwers received a 93rd-minute red card for a second bookable offence.
