BERKSHIRE cricket star Jack Davies has been named in the England Young Lions squad for their trip to South Africa next month.

It rounds off a memorable year for the Henley batsman and Wellington College student, as he won the man-of-the-match award for his century when Berkshire beat Lincolnshire to win the Unicorns Championship title in August.

Another Berkshire player, fast bowler Ethan Bamber, is also in the Young Lions squad.

Both teenagers also play for Middlesex 2nds.

Tom Lambert, the Berkshire Performance Manager, said: “It’s more outstanding news for our county as it again shows the high standards offered to young players in Berkshire.”

Lambert has also selected the players for the 2017-18 Berkshire Academy and among the 11 are Wokingham pair Archie Carter and Jack Winterbottom, as well as Finchampstead’s James Woodford and Tommie Predgen.

Former Finchampstead paceman Callum Gregory has had his development contract with Gloucestershire extended.
