FRANKIE Bakrlik scored six goals as Bracknell Bees enjoyed a four-point weekend to stay among the pace makers in the NIHL Division South One, writes Dave Wright.

The Czech hot-shot netted twice in the 6-5 victory at London Raiders on Saturday, with four more coming in the 7-6 defeat of Invicta Dynamos at The Hive on Sunday, including the winner in overtime.

“Yes, it was a good weekend for me,” he said. “It doesn’t happen very often, but that is why I am here. I try to put everything into scoring goals and help the team.

“But there are some young guys scoring, so I am happy for them. I want to see them score more as perhaps it would take some pressure off me and I can save some energy for the bigger games.”

Bees had to rely heavily on Bakrlik last weekend as they were not at their best in either game and had to come from behind on both occasions.

“We did make it hard for ourselves because we did not start the games well,” he admitted. “We had to battle through and we can do better.

“I think we should be able to win games like this, not easily, but by doing what we are supposed to do. We need to manage games better and win without having to chase the game all the time – that was how it was in both games.”

Referring to Sunday’s win, where Bees trailed on four occasions before clinching victory in overtime, Bakrlik commented: “We scored, but they came back because there wasn’t (enough) focus from us. “We also gave them pps (power plays) and I think we also got tired as it was a tough game last night.”
