Here are our player ratings from Reading’s xxxxx against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Rafael – 7

Wearing the armband in place of Liam Moore, Rafael produced several saves throughout the game to keep the score lined down at least. A damning indictment of the Royals showing that despite conceding four goals, he still had a relativelCould’ve been a cricket score without him. Had little chance with any of Norwich’s goals.

Andy Yiadom – 4

In the first half offered a lot in an offensive capacity, showing great energy to get forward on the overlap but was pushed further back after half time and allowed too many gaps in behind him.

Omar Richards – 4

Beaten by the pace of Aarons on the overlap multiple times. Pegged back as the game went on after looking bright in the first half. Wasn’t shy in the challenge.

Tom Holmes – 2

Hacked an effort off the line from Teemu Pukki but then sold Rafael short with a terrible back-pass that ultimately led to Dowell’s goal and then did the same for Pukki’s goal. Passing was erratic all game in a really dismal day at the office.

Lewis Gibson – 2

Far too many opportunities were created as Gibson failed to get close enough to his man. Very little in terms of organisation and positional awareness. Sat far too deep and allowed the hosts to push Reading back.

Dejan Tetek – 6

In his first Championship start, Tetek won the free-kick which led to the opener. Looked composed and not intimidated by the occasion. A good showing.

Josh Laurent – 5

Headed home from a free-kick after making a smart run at the back post. Allowed Norwich to make plenty of runs from deep and allowed frustration to get the better of him as the game developed.

Michael Olise – 5

Produced a gorgeous cross for Laurent’s opening goal. Missed a good chance from inside the box on the stroke of half time. Keen to show for the ball and take control in the first half but faded after the break.

Ovie Ejaria – 5

Contributed to the defensive efforts with some strong challenges but let Dowell get in behind for his second goal with slack tracking. Showed exquisite control to get away from several challenges.

John Swift – 5

Combined really well with Olise and Ejaria in the first half with quick passing, as well as spreading the play to the wings. Subbed off for Meite on the hour mark after his passing began to get a bit sloppy.

Lucas Joao – 3

Lacked a bit of physicality in the challenge. Hesitant when presented with the chance to drive forward with the ball. Sloppy on the ball and gave it away cheaply.

SUBS

Yakou Meite – 2

Put simply, he barely did a thing. Offered absolutely nothing upon his introduction.

Tomas Esteves – 4

Showed some nice touches but that was about it.

Alfa Semedo – 3

Didn’t offer protection to the defence or add anything in trms of support for the attack.

Mamadi Camara – 3

Failed to make an impression.
