Reading FC have confirmed the loan signing of highly-touted Everton defender Lewis Gibson.

The 20-year-old defender, who joined Everton from Newcastle at the age of 17, spent the latter stages of last season on loan at League One outfit Fleetwood Town.

He also captained Everton U23's to a league and cup double two seasons ago and represented the England U20 Side last Autumn, playing in the 3-0 win over Iceland in the heart of the young Lions' defence in November.

Manager Veljko Paunovic told the club website: "I am absolutely delighted that Lewis has come to join the group and to be part of what we are trying to achieve here at Reading.

“A confident and capable left-footed defender who is comfortable on the ball and aware of the philosophy we are implementing out on the training pitch, he has promise and potential in abundance as well as the talent to make an impact as a Royal this season.

"I am sure he will add competition to our defence and a readiness to our squad.”

Gibson will take the number 15 shirt at Reading and has joined until the end of the campaign.
