WARGRAVE are still seeking their first win of the season after a nine-wicket defeat by Finchampstead at the Recreation Road ground on Saturday.

The Home Counties Premier League newcomers were bowled out for 151, which included 32 extras.

Only Toby Greatwood scored more, hitting 39, and he shared a fourth-wicket stand of 70 with Neal Robinson, who made 29. Josh Sivier was the only other home batsman to make it into double figures with 21.

Finchampstead made light work in reaching their target with Greg Smith and Hampshire professional Ollie Soames putting on 113 for the first wicket.

After Soames had been caught for 43, Smith was joined by Dan Lincoln, and they didn’t hang around, securing their side’s first win of the season in the 26th over. Smith finished with 70 from 76 deliveries and Lincoln 27 from 17.

Wargrave visit Oxford at Jordan Hill this Saturday (12pm start).

Reading went top of the Thames Valley League’s Division 2b following their 98-run triumph at Bagshot.

Opener Sanjit Jheeta, maintaining his good run of form, scored 64 and Tom Davis 63 in a total of 222-9 from 40 overs.

Hosts Bagshot could only manage 124 in reply, with Amandeep Singh claiming 3-35 and Bobby Malik 3-27.

Kidmore End were on the receiving end of a 10-wicket thrashing by Eversley. They collapsed from 150-3 to 201 all out, the last five wickets tumbling for just four runs.

Eversley openers Tom Nichols, with 100, and Sam Kennet, 83, knocked off the required total in less than 26 overs.

In Division 3a, unbeaten Sonning were involved in a close finish with Taplow, reaching their target of 180 with their last pair at the crease, Jamie Boshier remaining 34 not out. Andy Niblett was the pick of the Sonning bowlers, taking 4-27.

They share top spot in the table with Sulhamstead & Ufton (210-8), who beat Cove 2nd (172-5) by 38 runs. Mark Thompson (63) took the batting honours for the winners.

George Wheeler’s fine knock of 66 helped Purley to post 245-6 before they limited Bagshot 2nd to 208-7, with the 37-run victory leaving them joint top of the Division 4a standings with Wokingham 3rds, who beat Theale & Tilehurst by five wickets.
