Here are our player ratings from Reading's abject home defeat against Brentford on Tuesday evening.

Rafael - 5

Rafael will be angry at the second goal especially, as he should've pushed the initial effort away from the danger area - although he had no help from his defenders.

Made a few impressive stops and could do little about the third goal which was a fantastic effort.

A poor all round defensive display made his display appear worse.

Chris Gunter - 4

Given the quality of Brentford's wide players - it was always going to be a tough night for Gunter. He didn't cover himself in glory offensively but was pegged back for long spells and had little assistance.

Liam Moore - 2

Not good enough from the captain. Not only was the defensive shape poor all night, but the reaction to Rafael making the stop that led to the second goal is inexcusable.

You need a captain to get his team motivated - especially when they fall behind. Reading cowered into their shell as soon as Brentford applied serious pressure and looked devoid of confidence.

Every player needs to step up and fight in games like tonight - none more so than Moore.

Michael Morrison - 4

As much as Morrison was equally to blame for the second goal, he did step up to the plate and make some crucial blocks to keep the score down.

Needs to show more composure in possession.

Jordan Obita - 4

In fairness to Obita, he got into some good positions on the left hand side and looked to deliver balls into the box.

Much like Gunter however, the quality of Brentford's attack gave Obita headaches all night.

Andy Rinomhota - 5

Was industrious and full of energy as always but found himself overloaded on occasion. Didn't excel but didn't hide away.

John Swift - 3

Lost the battle in the midfield. Needed to do more to help link the defence and help provide even a modicum of creativity in the middle of the park. Understandably replaced.

Ovie Ejaria - 5

Showed flashes of brilliance with a couple of stunning touches but the end product wasn't there.

Faded as the game went on.

Michael Olise - 4

Delivered a delicious cross to the back post and saw a volley deflect over the bar in the first half but that was more or less all Olise did.

Yakou Meite - 3

Struggled to make a serious impression in the game and let himself down on occassion with a few loose touches.

Sam Baldock - 3

No shortage of effort but Baldock is wasted on his own up front. Needs to be played to his strengths.

SUBS

Garath McCleary - 4

Came on when the game was already beyond Reading and couldn't do anything to change the pattern of the game.

Charlie Adam - 5

Added a bit of composure into the midfield and played some nice passes.

George Puscas - 3

Please refer to the paragraph underneath Sam Baldock's rating.
