TWO late goals saw South Berkshire men come from behind to defeat title rivals Sonning 4-2 in their MBBO Regional Two top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

They trail by two points with two games remaining, one fewer than Sonning, but now look certain of securing the second promotion spot as they are six points better off than third-placed Wallingford with a superior goal difference of nine.

An exciting end-to-end game at the Berks County Sports ground hung in the balance until the final stages.

After Ian Finlayson had put the hosts ahead, South Berks saw Sonning keeper Ben Sully make a couple of fine saves before they equalised through Kaya Campion.

In the second half, Noel Plant restored Sonning's lead, but it did take long for Sam Fuentes-Moreno to bring the scores back level.

Both sides had chances, but it was South Berks who were more clinical inside the circle, securing victory with two goals in quick succession in the last 10 minutes through Jack Baverstock and Ben Dudley.

South Berkshire are home to Banbury 2nds this Saturday.

South Berkshire 2nds wrapped up the Division Two title with a 5-1 rout of Wycombe 3rds.

Paul Kaplanski scored his second hat-trick in a row, with the other goals coming from Oliver Bruce and Des Sanders.

Raza Sheikh was on target for the visitors.

In Division Three, Tom Scott's goal was not enough for third-bottom South Berkshire 3rds as they lost 2-1 at home to Oxford University 4ths, Tom Moody with a brace for the students.

South Berkshire 4ths brushed aside Division Seven basement side Slough Swifts 3-0, while South Berkshire Terriers moved top of Division Eight West with a 3-1 triumph at Oxford 7ths.

They fell behind in the 14th minute, but hit back thanks to a Robbie Campion double and a Dominic Harvey strike.

South Berkshire ladies drew 2-2 at Newbury & Thatcham in Premier Division One of the Trysports Three Counties League.

In Premier Division Two, second-bottom South Berkshire 2nds were thumped 4-0 at Oxford 3rds, while South Berkshire 3rds beat Wycombe 3rds 2-0 in Division Two.

South Berkshire 4ths lost 2-0 at Wallingford 4ths in Division Five, Kerry Whitfield and Vanessa Bennett with the goals.
