Reading have offered a five day trial to New Zealand international midfielder Matt Ridenton.

Ridenton, who currently plays for Australian A-League side Newcastle Jets, will spend five days training with the squad as he pushes to earn a permanent deal.

A statement from the club reads: "Newcastle Jets can advise that midfielder, Matt Ridenton has been granted a week’s leave of absence to pursue an opportunity overseas.

"The Kiwi international is currently on trial with an EFL Championship club.

"It is expected that Ridenton will be back in training with the Jets following the Round 15 clash with Melbourne City."

The 23-year-old began his career with Auckland City before moving to Wellington Phoenix in 2013.

After five years with Wellington, Ridenton moved to Newcastle Jets in May 2018 - where he has since scored two goals in 35 appearances.
