EVERSLEY & California won their first Division One game since August when defeating mid-table Dorking Wanderers Reserves 2-1.

They trailed 1-0 at half-time, but two substitutes changed the game around. Kai Francis, who replaced the injured Ross Mckernan in the 63rd minute, made an immediate impact by equalising and in the first minute of time added on Francis set up the winner for the debut-making Luke Frewin.

The Boars remain bottom of the table, but have closed the gap on the side above them, Godalming, to two points with a game in hand. They take on Kensington & Ealing Borough at Leatherhead in the second round of the Division One Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Bracknell News:

Fifth-placed Sandhurst did Eversley a favour by winning 2-1 away to Godalming. Grant Kemp broke the deadlock two minutes after half-time with Danny Turner doubling his side's advantage from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute.

Godalming cut their deficit with a goal from Charlie Chennell just before the final whistle.

The Fizzers are home to AFC Hayes this Saturday and then host Dorking Wanderers Reserves in the Cherry Red Records Premier Cup third round next Tuesday (7.45pm).

Ascot United gave Jamie Tompkins a perfect birthday present by beating Banstead Athletic 1-0 with the three points taking them back to the top of the Premier Division.

But they kept their 29-year-old manager waiting, as it was not until stoppage time when Ian Davies netted the winner from the penalty spot.

It was a little surprising it took so long for a goal to arrive as both sides had earlier created plenty of chances.

Bracknell News:

Davies saw an early shot saved when well placed and Aiden Higgs’ deft touch brought a full-stretch save from keeper Dave Trevino, before the same player miscued a first-time shot from Mitch Gutteridge’s cross.

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with the Yellamen working hard to break down a resolute Banstead defence.

Luqman Kassim lofted a difficult first-time shot over the bar before Davies headed too high and Kassim then inexplicably missed a gaping target from Rory Merrick’s cross in the 89th minute.

Bracknell News:

Just when a goalless draw was looking inevitable, United substitute James Richardson was brought down by Tom Batten, who was sent off, and Davies duly smashed the spot-kick into the left-hand corner to secure the victory.

With Spelthorne Sports crashing 3-0 at home to Southall, Tompkins' men regain top spot in the standings with 41 points from 20 games. They are two clear of Spelthorne, with Knaphill, Southall and Frimley Green all following on 36 points.

This Saturday, the Yellamen are home to sixth-placed Colliers Wood United.
