ASCOT United saw their FA Vase run come to an end following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kent-based Corinthian, writes Dave Wright.

They fell behind after eight minutes when they failed to clear their lines and the ball fell to Oscar Housego, who crashed a fierce shot into the top right-hand corner.

Ascot responded well with Luqman Kassim having a shot blocked on the line and going close again before Ian Davies converted Usman Lalustani’s cross at the far post to level the scores.

The Southern Counties East League Premier Division side, seeking their 12th win in 13 games, regained the lead nine minutes before half-time when Jack Mahoney's 25-yard free-kick was helped into his own net by the unfortunate Sam Gray.

The Yellamen had chances to equalise, being denied by both the post and crossbar, while Kassim forced keeper Aiden Prall into making a fine save.

Jamie Tompkins' men remain top of the Premier League, but now only on goal difference after 16 games. They have been joined on 34 points Colliers Wood United with Spelthorne Sports just two points behind.

This coming Saturday, United take on fifth-placed Sutton Common Rovers at Sutton United FC.

In Division One, there were defeats for Sandhurst and Eversley & California.

The latter were beaten 2-0 at home by Fleet Spurs, both goals coming early in the second half, and this defeat left them five points adrift at the foot of the table.

The Boars visit Ash United this coming Saturday.

Sandhurst, in seventh place, slumped 5-2 at home to Bedfont & Feltham after a performance which fell well below the standard they have shown in recent games.

Luke Burrows quickly replied to the visitors' second-minute opener, but they trailed 3-1 at half-time.

After conceding a fourth, Carl Prestidge netted a second in the 82nd minute with Bedfont adding their fifth from a penalty in stoppage time.

The Fizzers will be hoping to rediscover their form when they host British Airways at Bottom Meadow on Saturday, and then next Tuesday (7.45pm) they are home to Ash United.
