FORMER Bracknell Town assistant manager Michael Butcher made his Reading City debut as they enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 Premier Division victory at home to Holmer Green on Monday night, writes Richard Ashton.

The centre-back showed his class with an assured performance as the Citizens eventually broke down their opponents.

Mitchell Parker hit the post in the 63rd minute, and the hosts had another golden chance shortly after, only for Adam Cashin-Murray to see his penalty saved.

However, City did take the lead on 69 minutes, Austin Best's flick-on collected by Parker, who crossed for Ellis Cowd to head home at the back post.

The sublime Parker then hit the bar before the home side doubled their lead with 10 minutes to go, Fergus Burton finishing after Sam Bell's cross had been blocked.

City sealed the victory with two minutes from time when the outstanding Parker finally got the goal his performance merited.

Manager Simon Johnson was pleased with the victory, and speaking on Butcher, he added: "It's a pleasure to have a player with his experience, passion and game understanding. He will be a fantastic addition to the club both on and off the pitch."

City – whose home game with Westfields was postponed on Saturday – visit Tuffley Rovers this coming Saturday (3pm) before hosting Brackley Town Saints next Monday (7.45pm).

Struggling Woodley United went down 3-0 at Holyport in their Division One East encounter on Saturday.

The hosts took the lead against the run of play on 13 minutes when Alan Ackerman's looping header ended in the left-hand corner.

Holyport doubled their lead midway through the second period in controversial circumstances, Fabian Driffill bundling the ball into the net after Neil Griffith stopped his initial shot, the Kestrels feeling aggrieved as the goalkeeper suffered a head injury while making the initial save.

While they battled away, 'Port completed the scoring when Ackerman grabbed his second to seal the win.
