WOODCOTE Stoke Row player-manager Sam Tucker stepped down from his role despite his side beating Burghfield 3-1, writes Richard Ashton.

Josh Beisly bagged a brace for the home side with Carl Self also on target, while Dominic McKenzie was on target for Burghfield.

But after the game, Tucker confirmed: "The last 18 months have given me some wonderful highs and unbelievable memories and have made me proud to lead a fine club and team.

"The pitch and the support on the sidelines the team gets for each home game would put many clubs in the leagues above to shame."

Chairman Pete McAlister added: "It is with a heavy heart the club have accepted Sam's resignation from the position of first-team manager.

"Sam stepped into the role when the club was at something of a crossroads. During that time Sam has worked extremely hard, sometimes in difficult circumstances, helping us maintain our position at the top end of the Thames Valley Premier Division – this culminated in a 15 game unbeaten run and a strong third place finish in the league last year.

"I and my fellow committee members sincerely thank Sam for his efforts. He can step away with his head held high and we would wish to see him remain as a player at the club."
