THE East Berkshire competition winners and runners-up for the 2019 season competed for the Garnett Putter with last year’s runner-up Josh Edmundson (7hcp) returning a nett 65 on the par-69 course to win by two shots from Peter O’Farrell (9hcp).

Gary Van De Mortel (14hcp) was third with a nett 68.

The Autumn Cup was won by John Amor (15hcp), who returned a nett 65 to win by two shots from Tony Jell (25hcp), with third place going to Chris Davison (16hcp) with a nett 68.

East Berks' men's senior section finished their season by playing for the Seniors Autumn Cup. The winner on countback was Gil Sloan (18hcp), who returned 39 points with Richard Tucker (13hcp) runner up and David Stygall (13hcp) third with 38 points

The ladies contested the Autumn Cup with Rachel Pearson (21hcp) returning a nett 67 to win by four shots.

Runner-up on countback was Carol Leith (11hcp) with a nett 71 from Karen Boucher (20 hcp).

Dorothy Sweeney (28hcp) won the ladies' Autumn nine-hole stableford competition with 18 points, one ahead of Carol Gibbons who has the same handicap.

l MILL Ride have won the inter-county scratch league, topping off a near perfect past four years.

The team won the Division One title – which also featured Castle Royle, South Herts and Sandy Lodge – by defeating Berkhampstead Golf Club 8-6.

Out of the eight games played during the year, Mill Ride managed to win six, with the following players having represented the club – Jack Small, Matt Green, Shane Jackson, Josh Evans, Nigel Ayling, Sean Morris, Carl Riches, Ryan Cahill, Jack Core, Adam Short, Zak Jenkins, Julia Warke, Blair McHarg, Mike Ford, Adam Taylor, Charlie Roper and captain Robin Carter.

In what has been a remarkably successful run, Mill Ride entered Division Four in 2016 before winning it to gain promotion.

In 2017, they finished as runners-up to move into Division Two, and they went on to win that before their success this year.

Robin Greenwood, from Mill Ride, said: "A huge congratulations must go to Robin Carter and all the players who have played for us this year. It is a tremendous achievement."
