BINFIELD manager Roger Herridge hasn't a good record when it comes to the FA Vase, but that could all change this season, writes Dave Wright.

His side are through to the second round after winning 4-0 at Egham and have been rewarded with a home tie against Combined Counties League strugglers Redhill on November 2, although the date has still to be confirmed.

Their chances of making further progress look good, particularly if they are able to include their new signings George Short and Calam Gallimore, who both made impressive debuts last week.

Former Bracknell Town midfielder Short has joined from Southern League club Winchester City, while fellow dual-registered signing centre-back Gallimore has come in from Isthmian League side Marlow.

Long throw-in expert Gallimore was involved in both Binfield's opening goals, the first coming inside the opening minute and the second after 28 minutes, with Josh Howell supplying the finishing touch on each occasion.

Josh Helmore added the third on 73 minutes when he latched onto a big clearance down the middle from keeper Joe Williams with Howell completing his hat-trick four minutes from time.

Herridge was understandably delighted with this win, adding: "I haven't done well in the Vase before, so obviously I am pleased to be in the second round and it's nice to have a home tie. Redhill are not having the best of seasons, but we certainly won't underestimate them."

Binfield then defeated Burnham 4-2 on Friday to reach the quarter-finals of the Bluefin Sports (UHL) Cup with Sean Moore bagging a hat-trick along with an own goal by the visitors, who finished with nine men following two red cards.

Moles, who were scheduled to visit Flackwell Heath in the Floodlit Cup last night (Tuesday), return to league action at Royal Wootton Bassett this Saturday and next Tuesday they visit Windsor (7.45pm).

Binfield have been drawn away to National League club Maidenhead United in the first round of the Berks & Bucks Senior Cup.

Wokingham & Emmbrook, who won 1-0 away to Didcot Town Development with a first-half Charlie Dean goal in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup last week, return to Division One East action at Penn & Tylers Green this Saturday.
