OLIVER Bryant completed a unique double at East Berks by winning the Wilson Bowl, 36-hole scratch amateur competition, and the Lushington Bowl for the best nett score.
The three handicap golfer from Aspley Guise & Woburn Sands shot an opening round of 71, two-over-par, to be joint leader with Simon Wort (4hcp) from the home club and Ryan Moody (+2 hcp) from Stoneham GC after the morning round.
Bryant maintained his form in his second round, recording a three-over-par 72 to finish on five-over-par (143) to win the Wilson Bowl by two shots from George Garnham (2hcp) from the Bedford and County Club, who returned a one-under-par 68 for the best gross score on the day, with Jack Carling (2hcp) from East Berks and Ryan Moody returning 145.
The Lushington Bowl was won on a countback by Bryant with 68 and 69 for 137 (one under) with Peter Strange (12hcp) from Mill Ride GC the runner-up with 66 and 71, while Frilford Heath's Joshua Martin (5hcp) was third with 69 and 70 for 139.
The annual Battle of Britain stableford at East Berks attracted a field of 100, with each player making a donation to the RAF Benevolent Fund.
Simon Plummer, a 20-handicap golfer, returned 39 points to win the competition by one point from Tony Adams (20hcp), with Mark Noviss (7hcp) third with 37 points.
East Berks' September midweek stableford was won by Martin White (13hcp) with 39 points, two better than runner-up Rob Hughes (17hcp).
