BINFIELD FC have completed what must surely be the most successful start to a season in the club's history with eight wins and a draw from nine league and cup games, including six clean sheets, during August, writes Dave Wright.

So the red-hot Moles certainly won't be lacking in confidence when they visit Harrow Borough in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup this Saturday.

"We will be looking to cause a shock," says manager Roger Herridge.

"It's going to be a big test for us, but we will give it our best shot and see where it takes us. If we win, it will be a giant-killing act as they are two levels above us."

Harrow are in good form as well, currently lying sixth in the Southern League Premier South Division following three wins and two draws in their opening five games.

Binfield's chances, however, could rest on player availability. Carl Davies, Jamie McClurg, Idris Kamara and Jemel Johnson were all missing when they defeated Virginia Water 1-0 after extra time in the FA Vase last Friday and only one or two are expected to face Harrow.

Due to an ankle injury, Sean Moore came off the bench for only the last 10 minutes, but Herridge is hoping both he and McClurg will be in his starting line-up this Saturday.

If McClurg plays, he could be in involved in a midfield battle with his former Bracknell teammate Kensley Maloney, who joined Borough during the close season.

The Binfield boss was particularly pleased to beat Virginia Water for, as he admits: "I don't have a good record in the Vase."

The victory was secured by Josh Helmore with a well-taken goal in the second minute of extra time.

"We deserved to win," added Herridge, who side now faces a second qualifying round tie away to Hellenic Division One East side AFC Aldermaston on September 14.

If a replay with Harrow is not required, the Moles will travel to Flackwell Heath for a Banbury Litho Floodlit Cup tie next Tuesday.

Their league fixture at Easington Sports, scheduled for last night (Tuesday) was postponed as the host club were involved in an FA Youth Cup tie against Thame United.
