SEAN Moore bagged four goals as Binfield crushed Chalfont Wasps 9-0 in their Bluefin Sports (UHL) Cup tie last Friday, writes Dave Wright.

Having rejoined the club from Bracknell Town, he missed part of pre-season through an ankle injury and is not yet fully match sharp, but he was still too strong and too fast for Division Two South side Wasps.

"It was nice to get my first 90 minutes of the season and the four goals were just a bonus," he commented.

The first of his haul came after just 15 seconds and from then on, the result of this tie was never in any doubt.

After Moore had headed wide of an open goal, Eddie Lee bagged a brace in the 27th and 39th minutes, either side of a 34th-minute goal from Josh Helmore, with Moore making it 5-0 at the interval.

Helmore, a livewire down the left flank, netted again on 50 minutes and five minutes later set up a goal for Matt Deadfield, his first for the club.

Moore completed his hat-trick in the 67th minute with a superbly-struck shot with the outside of his boot from wide out on the right and added his fourth and Binfield's ninth on 80 minutes.

Manager Roger Herridge, who had rested several players, said: "Going into the game, we knew it wasn't going to be one of our toughest tests of the season and some times it can be hard playing against sides like them.

"But we dominated from start to finish and the longer the game went on the better we got.

"We certainly passed the ball better in the second half than we had in the first and in the end, we could have scored twice as many goals. Credit to Chalfont, they never gave up and the keeper (Joel Harfield) was probably their man-of-the-match."

Binfield's long-serving skipper James Knight, who had been relegated to the subs bench for the previous Mondays 2-0 win over Virginia Water, has decided to leave the club after making nearly 200 appearances.

"He said he feels it was time for him to move on," said Herridge.

"As a club, we are disappointed as he has been had virtually been an ever-present for the last few seasons. He has been a great club man and a good captain, and we thank him for what he has done.

"He has been a vital cog in our dressing room and has kept us together on the pitch on many occasions.

"We wish him all the best and the door is always open to him should he want to come back."

Josh Howell has captained the Moles for the last two games, but Herridge and coach Carl Withers will decide this week about who will wear the armband on a regular basis.

Binfield, who were due to visit Burnham in the league last night (Tuesday), are home to Wessex League side Lymington Town in the preliminary round of the FA Cup this Saturday.

Providing there is no replay, the Moles then face Reading City, who have also made a good start to the season, at Hill Farm Lane on Monday (3pm).
