EAST Berkshire members raised £18,000 for two charities during a weekend which saw them host a four-ball team event, as well as other competitions, along with a dinner, auction and raffles.

The charities – chosen by men's captain Peter Stevens and ladies' captain Donna Hunt – were Sandhurst Stroke and Disabled Club and Camp Mohawk based near Wargrave.

The programme of events started on the Friday with 25 four-ball teams participating.

The winners were Donna Hunt, Celia May, Roland Cundy and Tommy Wier with 92 points, one ahead of Kevin Downs, Lee Naylor, Richard Colebourne and Steve Bateman.

Third with 89 points were Patrick Bancroft, Amanda Bancroft, Dave Pinto and Kate Pinto.

Despite an early start on a rainy Saturday morning, 80 members played a Texas Scramble shot-gun start team event with teams of four playing with a lady in each group.

The winners were Simon Wort, David Stygall, Steve Gale and Rena Hobbs with a nett 57.9, followed by Kevin Feesey, Ray Bowdrey, Simon Plummer and Sally Taylor with nett 58.3, and Jordan Sheperd, Joy Foster, Mark Smith and Kate Carter with nett 58.8.

Sunday's event saw 32 teams in a four-ball tournament, and victory went to Simon Wort, Mark Thorpe, Paul Donnelly and Karen Thompson with 97 points.

Runners-up on 94 were John Cast, Kevin Brant, Gary Smallbone and Darren Murphy, followed by Laura Webb, Rebecca Webb, Pauline Cameron and Peter Webb with 93 points, a total matched by Martin Green, Mick Breslin, Ken Levy and Joy Foster.

On Sunday evening, cheques for £9,000 were each presented to Annabel Hill, from Camp Mohawk, and Pam Owles from Sandhurst Stroke and Disabled Club.

Since 1987, East Berks members have raised more than £600,000 for local charities.
