Goalkeeper Lewis Ward has completed a permanent transfer to Exeter City for an undisclosed fee.

Having joined Reading's Academy at the age of nine, the Reading-born goalie progressed through the ranks at Hogwood and was part of the squad that lifted the U21 Premier League Cup in April 2014.

Despite not making a first-team appearance in Reading colours, Ward picked up experience at home and abroad by representing Whitehawk, Sutton United, Margate, Hungerford Town and Aldershot Town on loan spells, as well as Icelandic side Fylkir.

Ward then spent the first half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan with Northampton Town, before moving to fellow League Two side Forest Green Rovers in January and helped them to a play-off place.

Speaking to exetercityfc.co.uk, Ward said: "I just got a good vibe from the place.

“I met the manager last week and he just gave me a real incentive to join.

"He said it is a real, family-based club and everyone is really together in the dressing room and that just made me really want to join.”
