Reading return to pre-season training at the start of July, and their first match action will be a behind-closed-doors friendly against Southend United on July 6

The League One side will play to Hogwood after José Gomes puts his side through their first week of pre-season training - as they begin building up towards the new Championship campaign.

Southend, who avoided relegation from the third tier on the last day of the season, have former Royals striker Simon Cox on their books - and last played a Reading side in a 1-0 win against the Royals' U21s in the Checkatrade Trophy in October 2017.

The following day, Reading jet off to Spain for a two-week pre-season tour before flying back for their showpiece friendly against Chelsea at the Madejski Stadium on July 28.
