EAST Berks ended May and started June with stableford competitions with both being well supported by members.

Last month's event attracted an entry of 115 and the Division One players were led home by Charles Edmundson (10hcp), who edged out Michael Deignan (5hcp) on countback, both returning 37 points.

Countback was also needed for third place, with Jason Worm (12hcp) beating Joseph Lawton (9hcp), the pair on 36 points.

Division Two was won by Gary Van De Mortel (19hcp) with 43 points, four ahead of second-placed Mark Crandon (23hcp) with Keith Jones (14hcp) third on countback from Nick Cook (20hcp), both returning 36 points.

The June stableford, with a field of 110, saw Mark Lawrence (7hcp) winning Division One with 39 points, while the runner-up on countback with 38 points was Steve Boucher (6hcp) from Glenn Donnelly.

Division Two was won by Nick Carpenter (21hcp) with 38 points, one ahead of Paul Williams (20hcp).

A mixed greensomes was played on the late May Bank Holiday with East Berks ladies captain Donna Hunt and partner Simon Plummer returning 45 points to win by one point. Runners-up were father and daughter Peter and Becky Webb on countback from Jim May and Lissie Oliver Keen.

The club's ladies played a bogey competition for the Larmour and Gardom Trophy with Sue Robson (20hcp) taking the honours by four shots from Jane Quinn (16hcp), who was second on countback from Maureen Carter (28hcp).

A nine-hole Stableford competition was won by Dorothy Sweeney (28hcp), who returned 17 points to win by two points from Alison Goudge (24hcp).
