HOW things can change in a week!

Having been humiliated in a 7-2 defeat at Ware, Bracknell Town returned to another part of Hertfordshire last Saturday and crushed Cheshunt-based FC Romania 6-1.

Fielding a much-changed side, mainly due to Joe Grant, Jamie McClurg, Joel Jacobs, Sean Moore, Carl Davies and Ryan Parsons all being unavailable, this was their first Bostik League win since November 3, when they defeated Hertford 2-0 at Larges Lane.

It also gave them a high-scoring double over Romania, having hammered them 6-0 at home early in the season.

Among the scorers was young left-back Josh Hennah, now available again having returned home from university.

He joined a back four which saw Matt Day replace recent-signing Liam Eagle and Jonny Hathaway returning at right-back.

Ashleigh Artwell was also named in the starting line-up and he made an instant impact.

After seven minutes he set up the opening goal for Adam Cornell, who netted from close range, and two minutes later Artwell doubled the Robins' lead when he found the net from a corner of the six-yard box.

With just 35 spectators looking on, Town were in control and they left Romania reeling even further with three more strikes in quick succession.

Liam Ferdinand played a one-two with Kensley Maloney before slotting home from a tight angle in the 27th minute and two minutes later Maloney added the fourth with Hennah making it 5-0 with 32 minutes gone.

And Seb Bowerman, playing a more central role rather than on the wing, was only inches away from scoring with a curling effort which flew inches wide of the post.

Town managed only one further goal in the second half and that came on 66 minutes from Ferdinand's volley after substitute Kane Fitzgerald, who has just taken over from Artwell, headed Cornell's cross back across goal.

Gavin James, who has been sidelined by injury in recent weeks, took over from Maloney, while Eagle replaced Day.

That was on 75 minutes and six minutes later Romania pulled a goal back through Chiduben Onokwai.

Town go third in the table, one of three sides locked on 33 points, two points behind leaders Hayes & Yeading, who have three games in hand on all of their closest rivals.

Bracknell are without a game this coming Saturday, with their fixture against Westfield, now taking place on New Year's Day next Tuesday (3pm) at Larges Lane, with a trip to Chipstead the following Saturday.
