STAN Bembenek (23hcp) won a Disabled Golf Association tournament at Mapledurham with a personal record score of 39 points, two ahead of his nearest rival.
“I have adopted a new technique for my putting and it certainly paid off,” said the one-legged player from Crowthorne.
He has also been helping school children to play golf and they have nicknamed him ‘Flamingo Stan’, prompting him to purchase a themed pair of pink and black golfing trousers.
Stan, who also helps to run Sandhurst Town’s ladies’ football team, is chairman of the DGA which organises nearly 50 competitions for disabled golfers around the country.
- SANDHURST golfer Abbie Gallagher-Rowlands has won the Under 18 Surrey Rookie League.
Gallagher-Rowlands and Foxhill GC junior partner Charlotte Benford defeated Home Park GC 3&2 at Pyford GC near Woking.
The girls had to fight back in the match before Abbie sank a 15 foot putt to seal the deal.
The pair, along with Alex Jenkins and Rhys Williams, also won the final of the mixed competition.
